His research focuses on enabling operations with multiple heterogeneous unmanned maritime assets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"aLF-aPX-K0-aPE\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">He received his Master&#039;s Degree in Applied Mathematics from <a href=\"https:\/\/uclouvain.be\/\">UCLouvain<\/a> in 2015. He then started a PhD funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frs-fnrs.be\/\">Belgian National Science Foundation (F.R.S-FNRS)<\/a>. He conducted research on direct imaging of exoplanets and circumstellar disks from ground-based telescopes. His thesis &#8220;Signal processing methods for high-contrast observations of planetary systems\" was completed in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aLF-aPX-K0-aPE\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">After his thesis, Beno\u00eet joined the Belgian Royal Military Academy to participate in the <a href=\"https:\/\/mecatron.rma.ac.be\/index.php\/projects\/marsur\/\">MarSur<\/a> project. This research project involves developing algorithmic solutions for autonomous unmanned maritime vehicles. For many types of applications, these environments must respect certain constraints or correspond as faithfully as possible to a real place. Floor plans are a simple and abundant format that humans can read and edit. As such, they are a good basis to create VR environments that match real buildings. We propose a method to convert floor plans to VR environments with minimal human intervention. Leveraging traditional computer vision, machine learning and 3D engines, our method is efficient but remains flexible and fast, and creates simple yet realistic environments that can be used for various VR applications.
