Pedro is a robotics researcher at the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit of the Department of Mechanics at the Belgian Royal Military Academy.
He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Universidade do Porto in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Pedro’s Master’s thesis focused on a platform-independent, multi-sensor topological mapping solution for autonomous offshore wind farm inspection.
Throughout his Master’s, Pedro worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems of INESC-TEC, specializing in Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and obstacle avoidance in maritime environments.
Before joining RMA, Pedro worked as a Robotics Software Engineer at Intermodalics—a vision and robotics software consultancy based in Belgium—where he contributed to various vision-guided navigation projects.
In 2025, Pedro joined the Belgian Royal Military Academy to contribute to the AIDEDeX project, which focuses on developing autonomous navigation solutions for harsh terrains while mapping hidden threats such as IEDs, ultimately enhancing EU land force safety.
