Basil Mannaerts is a junior researcher in the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit at the Royal Military Academy of Belgium. He is a recent graduate from ECAM Brussels, where he obtained a degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Computer Science.
His current work focuses on research related to large language models for human–machine interaction, with the objective of studying their potential integration into robot coordination systems used in complex technical and operational environments.
Prior to this position, he carried out an internship and Master’s thesis at the Royal Military Academy, where his work addressed terrain traversability estimation for autonomous ground vehicles operating in off-road conditions. This work involved learning-based perception methods and their integration into robotic systems.
His research interests include large language models, autonomous robotic systems, and the application of artificial intelligence to real-world engineering problems.
