Vitor Bueno is a robotics researcher at the Robotics & Autonomous Systems Lab of the Belgian Royal Military Academy, where he works on autonomy for safety-critical and defense applications.
He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Automation Engineering from the University of Porto (FEUP). His work sits at the intersection of robotics, control, and deep learning, with a strong focus on computer vision–driven perception and decision-making for autonomous systems.
During his academic training, Vitor collaborated with INESC Porto’s Power and Energy Department and completed his master’s thesis within the R&D division of ZF Wind Power, gaining hands-on experience in industrial-grade engineering and applied research. He also co-founded the Driverless division of FEUP’s Formula Student team, leading the control team and building autonomous racing capabilities from the ground up.
Following graduation, he joined Politecnico di Milano, where his research centered on advanced control strategies for UAVs operating in complex, unknown environments.
In 2025, Vitor joined the Belgian Royal Military Academy to contribute to the CONVOY and GENIUS projects. His work focuses on developing an autonomous navigation stack and manipulation framework for the detection and neutralization of surface mines, combining perception, planning, and control in high-risk operational settings.
