Leonardo is a robotics researcher at the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit of the Department of Mechanics of the Belgian Royal Military Academy. His research focuses on UAV visual navigation.

He acquired his Master’s degree in Automation and Control Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2025, with a focus on advanced control theory and autonomous systems.
During his first year of Master’s degree he gained experience in developing estimation algorithm by being member of the Guidance, Navigation and Control team of the Skyward Experimental Rocketry student association. During his Master’s Thesis, instead, he focused on the development of algorithms for urban autonomous cars as member of the AIDA Research Group at Politecnico di Milano. His thesis focused on the development of a perception system to increase positioning accuracy of detected stalled vehicles and the implementation of an efficient and robust smart road communication protocol management system to enhance road safety information management.
In 2026, Leonardo joined the Belgian Royal Military Academy to contribute to the ATTENTION project, with the aim of developing a GNSS-denied visual navigation system for UAVs, without relying on any active sensors.
