Miguel is a robotics researcher at the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit of the Department of Mechanics of the Belgian Royal Military Academy.

He completed his Master's Degree in Electro-mechanical Engineering with a Mechatronics option at Ecole Polytechnique de Louvain (UCLouvain). During his studies, Miguel's Master's Thesis focused on the design and realization of an autonomous mobile platform inspired by Segway, emphasizing Control and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) in unknown environments.

After his studies, Miguel undertook a research internship at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, in collaboration with the Bosch Car Multimedia factory. During this time, he developed a computer vision system aimed at automating the verification of bulky packages.

Before joining the RMA, Miguel worked for Flanders Make, a strategic research center for the Flemish manufacturing industry, as a Robotic Application Engineer. There, he mainly focused on designing and implementing flexible robotic systems aligned with Industry 4.0 standards.

In 2024, Miguel joined the RMA to contribute to the CONVOY project, responsible for developing a multi-sensor system for detecting hidden threats like IEDs, enhancing EU land force safety. It integrates sensor technologies across unmanned ground and aerial systems, utilizing AI for information fusion and mission planning.
